Shortlisted for Secondary School of the Year

Staff and students from the academy attended a prestigious awards ceremony in Manchester earlier in July.

The School Awards, supported by the Manchester Evening News and Manchester College, recognise the inspiring achievements of children, teachers and schools. The awards received a record number of nominations in 2018, with OAO named as a finalist for one of the ceremony’s highest accolades – Secondary School of the Year.

While we didn’t bring home the winning trophy, judges praised the ethos and dedication of staff and students.

When reading out details about the shortlisted schools, the judges noted about OAO: “Transforming the school has taken a huge amount of effort and determination from every member of support staff, each TA, all the teachers and the pastoral leads and senior leaders.”

Nigel Whittle, Principal, added: “The awards recognise academic improvement, but also champion community work, staff development and raising aspirations. That is what makes our shortlisting such an important milestone – it is the result of all our collective efforts.

“Every student and staff member should be rightly proud of their contribution.”
