TV star returns to Oasis Academy Oldham

Former Oasis Academy Oldham student and Hollyoaks star, Malique Thompson-Dwyer, returned to the Academy this morning to run a series of workshops to inspire students.

Malique left the Academy four years ago and has since gone on to star in a host of films and TV programmes. He is best known for portraying Prince McQueen in Hollyoaks - a role he has been shortlisted for a National Television Award for.

During his return, Malique said: “Coming back to my old school has been inspiring for me, and I hope the students have got something out of it too. I learnt a lot at Oasis Academy Oldham, it is where I developed as an actor. To come back has been a fantastic experience and brought back lots of memories.”

Malique is just one of a number of former students from the school currently making the headlines.

Footballer Dwight McNeil, who is earning rave review playing for Burnley, made his Premier League debut this season after leaving Oasis Academy Oldham several years ago. Reiss Jarvis has also received numerous accolades for his role in Murdered for Being Different.

Dominique Gobbi, Principal, said: “It was great to welcome Malique back into the school. Our students really appreciated seeing how far hard work, dedication and talent can take them.”

As part of his visit Malique talked about his pride at being shortlisted for a National Television Award. He also returned to the Art Department to find some of his artwork that he still had to collect!

“I stood in the spot where I did some of my first shows at school. It feels like so much has happened since then – and now I am so honoured to be shortlisted for the Best Performance in a Serial Drama at the NTAs.”

Voting is open until 11:00pm today. To support Malique, please visi twww.nationaltvawards.com
