Enrichment
Here at Oasis Academy Oldham, we are committed to ensuring that the highest quality academic curriculum is offered, underpinned by a competitive enrichment programme.
Throughout each year, we try to encourage all pupils to take part in an extensive extra-curricular programme. Whether that is joining a club, becoming part of a team or getting involved with school trips and special visits.
Our aim is to allow our pupils to develop other facets of their personality and to discover more about their strengths and talents. We therefore put together an extensive enrichment programme covering the arts, sports, STEM and more, regularly inviting guest speakers in for workshops and going out on educational trips.
Extended Cultural Offer
The Extended Cultural Offer has been designed and put in place alongside more academic subjects, such as English and Maths to provide students with a variety of skills and experiences that will support them in later years.
The Extended Cultural Offer gives our students opportunities to take part in a range of activities led by both Oasis staff and professionals from outside the Academy.
External providers include; St John’s Ambulance, the ‘outstanding’ graded Oldham Music Service, Debate Mate and Manchester Universities confucius centre.
The activities that have been put into place come under the five headings; Global Citizen; Community Volunteer; Sports Participator; Creative Master and Careers Prep. As a family at Oasis, we believe that these areas will support the students to develop into a well-rounded people, and keep them on a level playing field with young people from more affluent areas.
Duke of Edinburgh Award
The Duke of Edinburgh Award helps young people develop into well rounded and responsible individuals, and according to a recent survey it is regarded by many of the major employers in the United Kingdom as the most important activity that takes place in schools.
At Oasis Academy Oldham we encourage students to participle, and currently run the Bronze award from Year 9 upwards.
The Award consists of 4 units over at total of 6 months:
To successfully achieve their Bronze Award, students need to complete the 4 sections over the agreed timeframe.
In regards to the Voluntary, Physical and Skills sections, students select an appropriate activity that they will complete on a weekly basis. The Duke of Edinburgh participant will then log evidence for these sections on their DofE account. The evidence of participation will then be checked and approved by a D of E assessor from the Academy.
- Volunteering- pupils offer service to individuals or the community. This can range from teaching primary pupils to read, visiting the elderly, clearing footpaths to recycling within the School.
- Skill - this essentially means a hobby. It encourages discovery and development of practical and social skills and personal interests.
- Physical Recreation - Encourages participation/improvement in physical activity.
- Expedition - this encourages a spirit of adventure and discovery. At all levels of the award, appropriate training is given and practice expeditions take place.
To ensure that students are correctly prepared for the 2 day assessed expedition, students have to attend regular training at the Academy (see useful information section for the timetable) and a practice expedition.
