Transition

From Primary to Secondary School

Children joining our Academy all have the opportunity to build relationships with us and learn about the next stages of their education prior to starting with us in September.

All year 6 students are invited in to the Academy for a taster day, where they will meet their form tutor and their peers for the next 5 years. We hope that this helps to settle some of the nerves that come with changing environments - especially since we understand how daunting it can be knowing you are the newest and youngest members of the family! With our taster day, our prospective students go home safe in the knowledge that they have walked the corridors of the Academy, met their teacher and most importantly made friends.

At Oasis Academy Oldham we are making huge steps to ensure students come through our door as a Year 7 student ready and prepared for Secondary School life. We are currently working with a number of Primary Schools in the area with students from Year 6. The work we do is vital in making the transition from Primary to Secondary education and building their confidence.

We get in contact with primary schools to gather important information about your child's learning needs.

Welcoming you into Year 7

We are delighted to welcome new Year 6 pupils into the family, even before you start with us!

At Oasis Academy Oldham, not only do we want to help your child secure the best possible qualifications, but we also support them to develop their passions, talents and interests and grow to become even more valuable members of the community.

As we hope you will be aware, our attainment across the academy is improving and we are developing lots of new initiatives in order to provide an exciting and enriching curriculum offer. This includes our highly regarded careers programme, a brand-new scholar stream for our most able students and our ongoing work to support students of all needs. We are sure that your child will thrive by being part of this.

Our Extended Curricular Offer (ECO) has, for example, continued to grow since the Open Evening. Our students can now take part over 50 different programmes a week, which vary from floristry to archery. Our school drama performances stand shoulder-to-shoulder with the very best. Students excel on the sports field and I am continually impressed by the active role that our young people take in shaping and enhancing our wider community.

We will also be welcoming all our new students for new intake days on the 3rd and 4th of July so they can become familiar with the school well before September.

These two days will conclude with a family information evening on the 4th– and we would be delighted to welcome you to join us to find out more about how you can be involved in the school and your child’s learning.
