CPD

At Oasis Academy Oldham we offer a lot of courses internally to develop you as a professional but due to our close partnership with the regional teaching alliance we are also able to support you to develop your own practice in a variety of areas.  If it is something you want to develop we will be able to help you.

Paul McEvoy, Assistant Principal for Teaching and Learning

All of teachers receive a weekly CPD session focussing upon a variety of whole school initiatives, teaching and learning and opportunities to develop a wider set of professional skills in a variety of areas including safeguarding assessment, leadership and outcomes.  All new teachers will also receive an intensive twelve week induction, this will provide you with the skills and expertise to be able to ensure you are able to quickly become part of the culture of the school.  These are small group sessions led my lead practitioners in the school who will not only help you to develop but also be an invaluable support mechanism in the first year of your teaching.

Trainees and NQTs will receive a one year induction led by our professional mentor, lead practitioners and subject mentors.  This also includes a weekend training residential focussing upon a variety of teaching and learning areas, this is also supported by external experts.  NQTs will also have training provided by our regional teaching school throughout the first year and beyond, this includes training on behaviour, assessment for learning, questioning, mindfulness and a whole host of other areas.  The training we provide for all of our teachers who are new to the profession is very extensive and highly regarded in the local area, we do everything to ensure you will get the best start to teaching.

We take professional development very seriously and we want all to develop on all levels whether it be by completing a Masters in a chosen field or developing your leadership. For anyone looking to take their first step into leadership we host an ‘aspiring middle leaders course’.  This is a year-long training programme that will give you the skills to be able to step up into a leadership role, it involves expert led sessions and visits to other schools in the county.

For those who are current middle leaders we work alongside Ambition Leadership to deliver a middle leadership programme, this is fully funded by the Academy and you will work alongside like-minded professionals to improve your leadership and work together to implement school strategy.

For those who want to work on a senior leadership level we host an aspiring senior leaders course and this includes a secondment for a term to the leadership team where you will be able to work closely with the Academy’s experienced leadership team to gain invaluable experience and a chance to lead on whole school strategy.
