Over lockdown our members of Oldham Youth Council have still been working hard and attending online meetings.
The Youth Council have been really busy working on ‘Make Your Mark’ and planning for their campaigns around Mental Health and discrimination/hate crime. Make Your Mark was a country wide campaign where students across the county voted on what is important to them. The council are now working on these topics and looking forward to how this can run in Oldham.
Aalyiyah, year 9 has been working very hard in the council and her hard work has now paid off as she has been elected the ‘Greater Manchester Youth Combined Authority Representative’ and now attends a meeting every month working on priorities for Greater Manchester. The group itself has a direct link to Andy Burnham and they work together as a collective group to make a direct change and difference across Greater Manchester. Here is what Aalyiyah had to say about her position ‘I really enjoy being able to voice the youths opinions and learn new things’. Over the next few months Aalyiyah will continue to work in her new position and continue to link Oasis to our local community.
The Council’s next big event will be on Thursday 18th February, where young people can take part in an interactive online listening event where they will discuss and share ideas about their experience of education during COVID and what they would like to happen as we try to get back to some kind of normality. The event will run from 3-4:30pm via zoom.
If students are interested in attending the meeting and having a direct impact in this discussion the link for the registration is https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/over-to-youth-education-matters-tickets-140840328213 .
